I often discuss other people’s hair loss, but recently, I realized it might be interesting to share my own experience. This epiphany came when a patient asked how I, an ‘expert’ in the field, managed to lose my own hair. My hair loss, like that of many men, is genetic and inherited from both sides of my family. Out of ten direct male relatives I can think of, only two didn’t end up almost completely bald. The question wasn’t just about why I lost my hair, but rather, why I hadn’t taken more action against my baldness. The truth is, I did take action, but Propecia wasn’t available during my hair loss phase, and Minoxidil didn’t have the desired effect.
During my training in hair surgery, I underwent a hair transplant. However, the techniques and quality of hair transplants back then were far less advanced than today’s standards. Efficient use of available donor hair was not comparable to the current extremely high standards. The combination of advanced hair loss at a young age and the inefficient use of my limited donor hair left me with few options, especially as my donor area also thinned out over time. I’ve come to terms with this and reached a reasonably happy state. This experience allows me to empathize deeply with my patients, particularly the young men with a strong family history of hair loss and high expectations.

in the last weekI'm currently two days post-op from having an eyebrow hair transplant at the Farjo Clinic in Manchester. This is something I had wanted for a long time, but I wasn't sure it would be possible in my situation (I had a skin cancer excision from my forehead/eyebrow area, followed by reconstruction and a skin graft some years ago). I had previously seen a surgeon closer to home about a transplant, but they were quite dismissive and weren't willing to do any surgery on this type of skin/scar tissue. My eyebrow (or lack of) has continued to bother me over the years, and although I had microblading and used makeup to improve the appearance, it still lacked texture and looked flat/unnatural next to my other 'normal' eyebrow. Eventually, I decided it was worth getting a second opinion so I contacted a surgeon in London, who recommended that I see Dr Greg Williams at the Farjo Clinic because of his experience with burns and skin graft reconstruction. When i met with him in person he was very understanding of my situation and my wish to have a hair transplant . He was confident that a transplant was possible, talked me through my options, and then he left it with me to think about, without any pressure either way. So obviously I decided to go ahead, and I have had a lovely morning at the Farjo clinic in Manchester. Dr Williams performed the surgery himself, and the whole procedure was surprisingly relaxing and virtually pain-free. He has done a lovely job of matching the hair direction and pattern to my opposite natural eyebrow. After years of having a flat/2D eyebrow its a nice novelty to have a hairy eyebrow again - albeit a bit of scabby one at the moment. I have a few months of patience ahead of me to see the final result, but so far so good. Thank you to Dr Williams for taking this on as I know it wasnt the most straightforward case. And to all the lovely staff at Farjo who looked after me throughout the process (Cheryl, Emma, Sara, and Chloe). I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Farjo Clinic if you're unsure about having a hair transplant of any kind, but especially if you have a more complex issue or are thinking about an eyebrow transplant.

2 weeks agoI spent almost two years considering a hair transplant before finally deciding to proceed. As a medical consultant, I approached the decision carefully, spending a great deal of time researching the best options, speaking to people with experience in the field, and deciding who I could trust with such an important procedure. After all of that research, I chose Dr Greg Williams at Farjo Hair Institute and took a flight to attend his Manchester clinic. I could not be happier with that decision. From the first consultation, I was impressed by the thoroughness and professionalism of the process. There was no pressure to proceed with surgery. Instead, there was a detailed discussion about my goals, the risks and benefits, alternative options, and the role of medical therapy. Everything was explained clearly, allowing me to make a genuinely informed decision. What stood out most was the meticulous planning. Dr Williams is not simply designing a hairline for next year. He is thinking about how it will look in 10, 20, or even 30 years’ time. I really valued that my partner was included in the pre-op consult. What also became very apparent during the consultation process was the value of Dr Williams’ background in plastic surgery. Hair transplantation is not simply a technical procedure. The design of a natural hairline requires judgement, artistry, and an exceptional eye for detail. The hairline that Dr Williams designed for me is, quite honestly, a work of art. It looks entirely natural and complements my facial features. The procedure itself was an excellent experience. The team were professional, attentive, reassuring, and clearly highly skilled. The procedure was essentially painless. I was kept comfortable and relaxed throughout, with the option of watching television with headphones or simply resting. A special mention should go to Cheryl, who was exceptionally helpful throughout. My work schedule made arranging dates challenging, and there was a considerable amount of back and forth to find a suitable time. She was always responsive, patient and accommodating. The aftercare has been equally impressive. The instructions were detailed, comprehensive, and easy to follow, and communication afterwards has been outstanding. It has been very reassuring to know that support is readily available should any questions arise. The clinic itself is modern, welcoming, discreet, and extremely well run. Throughout the entire process, I felt I was in very safe hands. For anyone considering a hair transplant, I would recommend Dr Williams and his team without hesitation. The reputation is thoroughly deserved, and the quality of care, expertise, attention to detail, and professionalism have been outstanding from start to finish. Travelling to Manchester for treatment was easier than I had anticipated, and looking back, choosing Dr Williams was the best decisions I could have made.

3 weeks agoToday marked my 8 month post op checkup. At this stage I’m seeing such great results and couldn’t be more pleased with the investment I made in myself but also choosing Farjo Hair Institute and Dr Zayn Sattar to complete my surgery. From the minute I walked through the door for my first consultation to date I’ve been blown away by the incredibly positive experience I’ve had. In addition to this, every single member of staff who’s supported me along the journey I want to thank you, you all went above and beyond pre, during and post operation. If you’re thinking about a hair transplant, speak to Farjo Hair Institute, they couldn't come with any higher of a recommendation from myself.

3 weeks agoI had my hair transplant yesterday at Farjo and I honestly couldn’t have asked for better care. From the moment I arrived, everyone was so welcoming, helpful and reassuring. The nursing team were brilliant all day and couldn’t do enough for me. Dr Farjo and Dr Sattar were fantastic — both made me feel really at ease throughout, especially as it was such a long procedure. I’m really pleased with how everything looks so far and I’m looking forward to my follow-up appointments and seeing the final result grow in over the coming months. A huge thank you to the whole Farjo team.

a month agoThis week, I had a hair transplant at Farjo Hair Institute Manchester. I was quite nervous about getting this done, but everyone at the clinic was extremely kind and reassuring from my first consultation over 2 years ago to the day of the procedure this week. A special thank you to Dr. Zayn Sattar and all of the staff who were involved in my treatment and care on the day. Everyone was extremely friendly and they made me feel comfortable throughout the process. I’m already really pleased with how everything looks so far and I’m excited to see the final results over the coming months and years. The level of care and attention I received has been excellent, and I felt in good hands throughout my journey. I’d definitely recommend Farjo Manchester to anyone considering a hair transplant.
