3 weeks agoI underwent a crown transplant procedure with Dr. María Andrés Schambach after previously having two successful hair transplant surgeries with Dr. Bernard Nussbaum in Miami. Unfortunately, my experience with this procedure was very disappointing. During my consultation, I was told that the surgical plan would involve approximately 4,000 grafts per surgery, with two procedures totaling around 8,000 grafts placed in the crown area. Because donor hair is a limited resource, this was a significant factor in my decision to proceed. After allowing the appropriate amount of time for growth, the final result has been extremely disappointing. The grafts appear to have been distributed across a very large area with very low density, leaving my crown looking thin and still largely bald despite the number of grafts that were described as being transplanted. From my understanding of hair transplantation, crown restoration typically requires careful density planning and a strong use of multi-hair follicular units to achieve coverage. In my case, the hair appears to have been spread too thinly over a wide area rather than concentrated to create density. Another concern for me was the clinic structure. Compared with the highly organized surgical team environment I experienced during my procedures in Miami, the clinic appeared to have very limited surgical support staff, with most of the work performed by the doctor alone. The overall experience felt far less structured than what I had previously experienced in a professional hair restoration practice. Given the final appearance of my crown and the remaining donor area I still have, it is difficult for me to reconcile the outcome with the originally discussed graft numbers. Regardless of the explanation, the end result is that I now have a very thin crown and fewer donor resources available to correct it. Because donor hair is finite, the consequences of a poorly planned transplant can be long-lasting. For this reason, I strongly encourage prospective patients to carefully research crown transplant strategy, graft density planning, and the surgical team structure of a clinic before deciding where to undergo hair restoration.
