Dr. Terrence Keaney, MD, FAAD, of SkinDC, located just outside Washington DC, is a trailblazer and advocate for the “personalization” of dermatology. He emphasizes the importance of tailoring dermatological care to the unique characteristics, needs, and preferences of each patient. Recognizing the critical role that gender plays in influencing anatomy, skin function, and behavior, Dr. Keaney customizes treatments for a variety of conditions such as hair loss, acne, rosacea, skin cancer, genital skin diseases, and skin aging. He adopts the latest technologies to assist in skin imaging and treatment, utilizing advanced imaging software to quantify signs of aging and disease and cutting-edge laser, light, and energy-based technologies to achieve superior results for both men and women. With the opening of SkinDC, Dr. Keaney can fully commit to his priority of personalized, preventive skincare using innovative dermatology techniques and products. His specialized training in cutaneous laser, hair, and dermatologic surgery positions him as a unique and expert voice in dermatology, skincare, and aesthetics.
Dr. Keaney, a local Washingtonian, graduated from St. Albans School in Washington, DC, and was a varsity lacrosse player at Duke University, earning all-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and Academic All-ACC honors. He graduated from the University of Virginia Medical School at the top of his class and was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) national medical honor society. His comprehensive dermatology training includes a residency at the University of Miami, a clinical research fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, and a fellowship in laser surgery. Currently, Dr. Keaney serves as Assistant Clinical Faculty of Dermatology at George Washington University and Howard University. He also directs the Laser and Lipoatrophy Clinic at the Washington DC VA hospital, where he proudly serves military veterans. Dr. Keaney enjoys teaching and mentoring dermatology residents, directing the cosmetic dermatology curriculum for the GW Dermatology residency program. He remains active in dermatologic research and education, focusing his research on the impact of gender on aesthetic and dermatologic treatment, and has authored over 30 articles in leading dermatology journals. Dr. Keaney frequently lectures at national and international conferences and is a Master Injector, teaching the latest techniques in the use of Botox and Juvederm products. As the Brand Spokesman for Dove Men + Care, Dr. Keaney is a recognized figure in media outlets such as the New York Times, GQ magazine, Esquire magazine, and many more, discussing the latest dermatologic developments.
