Dr. Sanusi Umar, known as Dr. U, is the founder of DermHair Clinic and a pioneer in hair transplant surgery. He is certified by the American Board of Dermatology and previously by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Additionally, he completed a fellowship in cosmetic surgery under the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. a month agoI am from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and in 2023 I traveled to Los Angeles for a five-day hair transplant with Dr. Sanusi Umar. I paid approximately US$45,000 (United States dollars), plus my own hotel and travel expenses, vitamins, and other products. I was also charged several thousand dollars extra for additional grafts. I was asked to wire the money before I arrived. From the beginning, Dr. Umar knew the condition of my donor area and what he was dealing with. I was given assurances about what could be achieved, but unfortunately the transplanted hair did not grow as I expected. I also believe much of my remaining donor hair was used, leaving me with limited options for future corrective treatment. In my experience, the assurances I received did not match the eventual result. This was a tremendous financial sacrifice for me. I am not a wealthy person; this was money I saved through years of hard work. I was extremely disappointed and asked for help and for some of the money to be returned because of the poor result, but I did not feel that my concerns were taken seriously or that any meaningful assistance was offered. Instead, I felt responsibility for the outcome was placed on me. I always believed that doctors and patients should work together and that doctors should listen to their patients and try to address their concerns. Unfortunately, I did not feel that happened in my case. I also found Dr. Umar’s communication rude and aggressive, and I felt that financial considerations received more attention than my concerns as a patient. The outcome has had a life-changing effect on me, causing significant stress and affecting my confidence, emotional well-being, and quality of life. This review reflects my personal experience, feelings, and impressions. I am not making general claims about his work or other patients’ results. 4 months agoMy appointment was scheduled for 10:00 AM, but I wasn’t seen until after 11:15 AM. Delays happen, but the doctor never acknowledged the wait or offered a simple apology. The staff was pleasant and professional. However, I was disappointed that when I declined the doctor’s proprietary supplements and requested evidence-based pharmaceutical treatment instead, the relationship ended there. Respect for a patient’s time and treatment preferences should go both ways.
