4 months agoWhere to begin… I’m incredibly grateful to Ray for looking after me and my hair with expertise, professionalism and most importantly - care - over the last 20 years. I cannot recommend him highly enough, it is a tragedy that he won’t be able to practice forever! I’ve just typed out a detailed story of my hair journey, but have discovered it’s too long for a google review , therefore the abridged version! In my mid and late 20s I had 3 hair surgeries with other providers - ended up with a horrible strip excision scar, and little difference in my frontal hairline. I found the Woods technique, read about how they invented and pioneered FUE, and the procedure made absolute sense to me. So I went to Sydney to see Ray. He put me at complete ease from that first meeting, and I had surgery with him a month later. The procedure took a long time and was spread over 2 days, but it was clear why - the care and finesse taken to personally extract and then implant each unit by him necessitated a long time. He also extracted many of the previously placed micrografts, replanting them as single FUE grafts. For the first time I was able to watch what was being done on a large screen, and I felt confident. Unlike the previous surgeries, I had definite growth at 3-4 months, and a year later I was looking at a brand new hairline that wasn’t pluggy. I was pleased beyond words, and very happy. Ray had mentioned that given this was essentially a repair job, that I may want to see him again in a year or so to finesse the hairline, but a year later I was still so happy that I didn’t bother going back. Fast forward 10 years (now in my 40s), and I’d had some further mild thinning although everything looked pretty good otherwise. I decide to see Ray again, just to get a ‘top up’ procedure. He filled in predominantly just behind the hairline where I had receded slightly, again taking great care and skill. I was beyond happy with the result! Fast forward another 10 years to age 50, and my hair still looked great! I’d always thought it would be a triumph if I got to 40 with most of my hair, now I was 50 with a good head of hair! However, the scar from old previous strip surgeries had always bothered me. So a few years later I thought it was time to see what Ray could do with that. So about 4 months ago I saw him again. He performed FUE into my large strip scar, and also finessed the very front of my hairline so it didn’t look quite so ‘straight’. I could see the advantage in terms of making things look as natural as possible. Again it was great to catch up with Ray, and again his care and expertise was exemplary. And now only 4 months post procedure, I can see my new finessed hairline, and I can feel all the new hairs growing in the strip excision scar. I know based on past experience that things will look great 12 months post procedure (they look good even now). And it’s likely I’ll not need any future surgeries, but I will definitely stop in to see Ray again when I pass through Sydney! If anyone is considering hair surgery, I would unreservedly recommend Ray Woods and his team. I’ve seen horror stories over the last 15 years of people going overseas, being horribly ‘overharvested’ so their donor area looks depleted and strange. I’ve seen hairlines lowered too much, which looks strange as you age. I’ve seen the trend for ‘mega sessions’ where you run the risk of scalp necrosis, and you have a much reduced graft survival rate for mega session procedures. In contrast Ray will take the utmost care of your valuable donor area, use his artistic flair and style to create a natural and age appropriate hairline that does not look strange as you age, and ensure maximal graft survival by implanting sensible numbers in each session (not performing ‘mega sessions’) Ray, again many thanks for looking after me all these years, I am incredibly grateful for what you’ve done for me! Look forward to popping in and saying hi when I’m next up your way.

6 months agoI first saw Dr Woods when I was 31 and already at Norwood 3 pattern hair loss. Now at 38, after a series of 8 procedures (i.e. top-ups as my hair continued to thin), I can confidently say he is a master of his craft. My results have been consistently excellent. What sets Dr Woods apart is his focus on donor hair preservation, something many patients overlook when opting for cheaper surgery (e.g Turkey), especially at a younger age. He plans carefully so you have the greatest chance of preserving enough donor supply for future hair loss or regression. Dr Woods has treated a close member of my family back in the 1990s, and his result has stood the test of time. Over the years I've referred about a dozen friends/family members to him, and every one of them has been happy with their outcomes. If you want natural, lasting results and a doctor who truly understands long-term planning in hair restoration, I cannot recommend Dr Woods highly enough.

a year agoI am a retired surgeon and can unreservedly recommend Dr Woods using the technique he personally developed over many years. Over 20 years ago ago I had a hair transplant by the then most reputable practitioner in Australia, who used the standard method which is regrettably still in use - implantation of small plugs. The result was sort of OK if one didn't look too closely. As the years went by, with more natural hair loss, the plugs became increasingly obvious and unsightly, with an embarrassing "toothbrush bristle" appearance. I regretted having had it done and covered my hair with a hat whenever possible. Dr Woods, who was recommended by a colleague, had recently perfected his single-follicle technique (subsequently adopted world-wide) and was uniquely able to fill in the gaps, with an excellent natural-looking result. I am eternally grateful to Dr Woods and his team for rescuing me from what would have otherwise been a life-long unsightly embarrassment.
